These dogs are NOT up for adoption at this time, but they do need your help. Please consider sponsoring one of our dogs in need. Your donation will go to help pay for their food, supplies, heartworm prevention and veterinary expenses until they are healthy enough for adoption or to live out their life in a loving foster home. Thank you.
IZZY

Sweet Izzy was rescued from an abusive environment. We will never understand how someone can beat a dog. Great care is being taken with her to trust again and let her know she will be cared for. She is only 8 monhts old, has gone into heat, and she has coccidia, hook and tape worms. After all she has been through she is showing us she wants love and attention. She will very slowly come to your feet and accept touch. She has also started playing with her toys. Please consider donating to her care. UPDATE: We thought Izzy was putting on needed weight, but she is pregnant. She will deliver around the end of May.
NAOMI AND HER PUPPIES

Naomi and her puppies were left at the San Marcos Shelter. Naomi was horribly thin, ribs and spine showing and her milk was drying up. The puppies, only 3 weeks old had to be weaned immediately. Sadly, Naomi is also heartworm positive. She is improving very slowly. The puppies are eating well and are very playful. We think they look a little like maltipoos, especially the ones with curly hair. There are 2 females (Dot & Ebony) and 3 males (Domino, Deuce & Oreo). The puppies will be available for adoption at 8 weeks of age, around June 1st. Please consider donating to Naomi's care. She will be in our system for months while we treat her heartworms.
TANK - GUNNER - ROSIE

One of our adopters rescued a small Terrier mix and her puppies. The mom of the pups was biten by a snake and died. We took in these sweet little babies, barely 3 weeks old and less than a pound each. It was touch and go for a few days. They now eat on their own and are gaining weight. Their mom was solid tan like Gunner, but these babies look a little like Jack Russells. They will be available for adoption after June 4th.
CHAMP

OUR MASCOT - Champ always greets you with his smile and wagging tail. We were devastated to learn that Champ has Osteosarcoma in his back leg. His leg was amputated in December of 2012. He is no longer on any pain medication and his mobility is great. We have found a foster home where he can live out the rest of his life. We cannot rescue him from his fate, but we will be by his side at the end. Please consider a donation to Champ’s care. Follow Champ's story

DUMPING - ABANDONING DOGS IS AGAINST THE LAW!
Section 42.09 of the Texas Penal Code prohibits the intentional cruel treatment of animals. Under current Texas Law, cruel treatment of animals is forbidden. The following actions define cruel punishment:
1. Torturing an animal 2. Failing to provide food, care or shelter 3. Abandoning an animal (*see note below) 4. Transporting or confining an animal in a cruel manner 5. Killing, seriously injuring or poisoning an animal 6. Causing an animal to fight with another (see info on recently passed Texas Legislature HB 916 here). 7. Using a live animal as a lure in a dog race 8. Tripping a horse 9. Injuring an animal belonging to another person 10. Seriously overworking an animal.
(* Note: Texas law defines abandonment (“dumping”) as the act of abandoning an animal in the person’s custody without making reasonable arrangements for assumption of custody by another person. “Custody” includes responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of an animal subject to the person’s care and control, regardless of ownership of the animal. When an animal is in a person’s custody, the law states necessary food, care, and shelter must be provided to the extent required to maintain the animal is in a state of good health.)
People who resort to this senseless behavior of abandonment can be punished under the Texas Animal Cruelty Act as a Class A Misdemeanor under Texas Penal Code 42.09 which carries a $4,000 fine and up to a year in jail. This offense becomes a state jail felony if the person has been convicted two previous times.

WAG Rescue is a volunteer supported organization. Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, and we could not rescue and adopt out our dogs without their help. Please read about the many ways you can help the dogs by becoming a WAG Rescue Volunteer…
The foster family is a very important part of WAG Rescue. It’s through the generous hearts and homes of fosters that we ensure the animals who come into our care will never again be alone, hungry, sick, or afraid. We can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes available. All we ask is for you to open your heart and your home to a dog in need of a second chance. Please read about our Foster Care Program…
If you can’t adopt – foster
If you can’t foster – volunteer
If you can’t volunteer – donate
If you can’t donate – educate, network, spread the word
EVERYONE can do SOMETHING to help save a dog.
