Adoption Process PDF Print E-mail

Thank you for considering a WAG Rescue Dog for adoption!  We are a small rescue and adoption group in Wimberley, Texas, the "Hill Country", about an hour south of Austin.  We do not have a facility.  Our dogs are in loving foster homes.  It is our goal to make the right match for the dog and your family, and we do our very best to ensure that.  We take pride in the care we give our dogs to ensure they are as healthy as possible before adoption.  Our dogs are rescued off the streets or from shelters that euthanize or owner surrenders.

Adopters must agree to keep the dog current on all vaccinations.

Adopters must agree to keep the dog on heartworm prevention year round.

Adopters must agree to spend the time and money necessary to provide veterinary care.

WAG Rescue dog's are sterilized before adoption. If too young to sterilize the adopter agrees to abide by the Sterilization Agreement.

We require all dogs in the potential adopter's home to be current on all vaccinations and spayed or neutered.

We do not condone dogs being left outside 24/7. Our dogs are indoor/outdoor and are meant to be companions.

We do not condone dogs being chained for any reason.

We do not condone dogs transported in the back of an open bed truck.

Homes with fenced yards are strongly preferred, but exceptions are made based on the size, age and activity level of the dog.

We will adopt out of state, but we do not put our dogs on airplanes.  You are welcome to visit Wimberley if you truly are interested in one of our dogs.

We do not adopt out dogs to homes to be trained as guard or attack dogs.

We ask that if for some reason you cannot keep the dog you adopted you contact us and do not surrender the dog to another person or shelter.  WAG Rescue makes a lifetime commitment to it's dogs.

Before proceeding with the adoption process, please consider the following:

  • Are you able to make a LIFETIME commitment to a dog? Most dogs, with good care, can live to be 10 to 15 years old and even older.
  • Are you familiar with the care and exercise a dog needs?
  • Will you be able to financially provide veterinary care for the dog?  Average cost is $750 per year.
  • Do you work long hours? Leaving a dog alone for long hours makes for an unhappy dog.
  • Will the dog be happy, safe and part of the family?
  • How many times do you think you might move or relocate during the next 15 years?
  • Are you willing to move your pet too, and restrict your choice of housing to places where pets are allowed?
  • What major changes might happen in your life in the next 15 years? Marriage?  Children?
  • Are you willing to continue spending time, energy and money to care for your pet when taking on new responsibilities such as these?
  • If you are getting a pet for your children, how old will they be in 15 years? Will you still want this pet after the kids have grown up and moved out?
