WAG Rescue understands that circumstances occur that result in you needing to rehome your dog.  Since we do not have a facility and rely on foster homes, we can only take in a dog when we have a place for them to go and if our funds allow for another dog to be brought into our system.  We do our best to assist owners who need to surrender their dogs, but our first priority are the dogs on the streets with nowhere to go and the adoptable dogs in the shelters that will be euthanized because there are too many dogs and not enough room. 

The Relinquishment Fee is $50 to $125 based on the health of the dog, age, current medical status, vaccination history and whether your dog is sterilized.

You must provide proof you are the legal owner of the dog.  A signed Relinquishment Form will need to be completed.  Once this form is signed the dog becomes the sole property of WAG Rescue.  No information on the adoptive family will be given to you.

WAG Rescue will NOT accept dogs that are aggressive with other animals or with people. If we discover a dog relinquished to us attacks/bites humans or animals, the dog will be returned to you or turned over to Hays County Animal Control.

WAG Rescue requires a heartworm test before we can accept a dog. The heartworm test must be current, within a month before relinquishment. You will be required to provide proof (veterinary record) of heartworm prevention & testing for us to determine if we can accept your dog. Heartworm positive dogs are received on a case by case basis.

1. Breed, age, sex, (spayed or neutered)
2. Medical history
3. Behavior issues
4. Reason you need to surrender your dog
5. A current picture of the dog

Once we review your email we will contact you.  Please be patient as we receive a large number of requests from people that need to surrender their dog.  WAG Rescue will make every effort to help you.
