WAG’s History

Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue (WAG Rescue) officially became a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation in October 2009.  We held the WAG Rescue 1st Annual Garage Sale Fundraiser in November bringing in over $3500 and qualifying for a matching grant.

WAG Rescue established a working relationship with Dr. Mike Sheffield and Dr. Todd Henry. They have graciously given us a discount on veterinary care for our dogs.  We also have a working relationship with Emancipet and Animal Trustees of Austin utilizing their discounted services for spay & neuter surgery and heartworm treatment.

With funding and veterinary care established WAG Rescue was able to find forever homes for 10 dogs by the end of 2009.

WAG’s Future

Wimberley is a giving community which has welcomed WAG Rescue and our efforts to save dogs.  WAG Rescue belongs to the community, because without their support WAG Rescue would not exist.  Our five year goal is to have a dog rescue & adoption facility in the Wimberley area.  Wimberley, a small rural town, sits between Austin and San Antonio.  The closest no-kill shelter is in Kyle, Texas, a small facility that is over burdened.  Our goal of building a center is a commitment to the community to care for lost and abandoned dogs and share the burden of this ever increasing population with the area shelters.
