WAG Rescue is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) dog rescue & adoption organization which relies solely on donations to fund our rescue efforts. Adoption fees alone do not even begin to cover the costs of providing food and medical care, supplies and boarding for one of our needy dogs awaiting their permanent home.
Our healthy dogs stay in our system on average 56 days. However, some dogs are not ready for adoption until they are completely well, as with heartworm treatment. For these dogs, their stay in our foster system can be upwards of 6 months. There are also dogs in our system who may never be adopted due to age or illness. WAG Rescue cares for these dogs and thankfully we have wonderful foster families that have given these dogs a home for life if they are not adopted.
All of our dogs receive a veterinary exam, heartworm and intestinal parasite testing and vaccinations (age appropriate). Any dog testing positive for worms or parasites will then be evaluated further and treated. The initial costs for receiving these abandoned dogs can exceed $200. Add to that any serious injury or illness and the costs rise substantially. We are very grateful to the Wimberley Veterinary Clinic and Cypress Creek Animal Hospital for their vital support and discounting their services to care for WAG Rescue dogs.
We are well on our way to our goal of building a Refuge and Adoption Center just 15 minutes from Wimberley. 2016 marked the year we were able to acquire the land to begin the process of building a permanent facility where we can care for and house incoming WAG Rescue dogs and puppies. We always want to keep the foster home component in place, but the Refuge and Adoption/ Resource Center will greatly enhance our ability to care for more needy dogs at any one time and afford us a place to quarantine incoming animals.
If you would like to donate to assist us in the building process, please contact us at 512 847-3200. Help our goal become a reality.
